I offer knife making workshops sponsored by the Blacksmith Guild of Western Maryland. The cost of class is $400 per person for 2 long days. All materials are included. The class covers starting a fire, forging 101, filing, sanding, differential heat treat, handle making, sheath making, leather work, finishing and sharpening. Each participant leaves with a complete knife and sheath, as well as a forged hook.
Guidelines for attending the workshop:
~Wear all cotton clothing suitable for working and practical comfortable shoes. Please avoid cologne and aftershaves/perfumes on the days of class.
~Pack your lunch, snacks, and water.
~If you have safety glasses, ear protection, respirator, leather gloves, and/or smithing tools that you like and are used to, bring them. If not I provide all of the above.
~This is a positive work environment. There are no drugs or alcohol involved with this activity. If you are found to be under the influence of any substance, I reserve the right to terminate your participation without a refund.
~This is a learning environment. Groups are composed of a broad spectrum of participants. There will be no discussion of politics or religion.
~If you have any medical conditions that could affect your participation, please make me aware. I am very willing to provide accommodations.
~If at any time you are uncomfortable with any part of the process or with any particular tool/machine, it is your responsibility to communicate that to me. I will closely assist you in working through that aspect of the process.
I offer one on one instruction in blacksmithing, woodworking and other traditional skills for $80 per hour. Woodworking instruction can include traditional joinery, carving, and shop tool instruction. Or, if you have an idea for a project I can help you complete it step by step: you dream it, I help you make it.
